Can I Do a Lash Course If I’m Pregnant?

If you’re expecting a baby and considering enrolling in a lash course, you might be wondering if it’s the right time to start a new career in the beauty industry. Pregnancy is a time of change and excitement, but it also comes with its challenges, and you may be concerned about how those might affect your ability to learn lash extensions. The good news? It’s absolutely possible to take a lash course while pregnant! However, there are a few things to consider before you commit. Let’s look at some of the key points to keep in mind if you’re thinking about doing a lash course while pregnant.

Physical Comfort

Lash courses often involve long periods of sitting down, especially during hands-on practice sessions. Depending on how far along you are in your pregnancy, this could become uncomfortable. During your training, you’ll need to concentrate on precision and detail, which can be tricky if you’re dealing with common pregnancy symptoms like back pain, fatigue, or swollen feet.

If you’re concerned about your physical comfort, here are a few tips:

Take breaks: Many lash courses allow for short breaks, but you can always ask for more if needed. At Pinkfishes Training we cater to all abilities, so if you feel that taking breaks would benefit you, just let your trainer know! Stand up, stretch, and walk around to keep your blood flowing.

Bring supportive items with you: A support belt, comfortable shoes, or even a cushion for your stool can make a big difference when you’re sitting for extended periods.

Listen to your body: If you feel tired, it’s okay to pause and rest. Your health comes first!

Exposure to Lash Adhesives and Chemicals

One of the main concerns pregnant women may have when enrolling on a lash course is exposure to lash adhesives and other chemicals. Lash adhesive contains cyanoacrylate, a substance that helps the lashes bond, but it can release fumes that might cause irritation if used in poorly ventilated areas.

While there is no definitive research showing that lash adhesive fumes are harmful during pregnancy, it’s always better to be over cautious. Here’s how you can protect yourself and your baby:

Ensure good ventilation: Make sure the training area is a good size room that is well-ventilated, with plenty of fresh air circulating.

Wear a mask: Wearing a mask can help reduce inhalation of fumes, especially during the practical parts of the course where you’ll be applying lashes. You could take one with you, or ask your trainer if one could be provided for you.

Choose low-fume adhesives: Ask your instructor if the course offers low-fume or pregnancy-safe adhesives. Some lash adhesives are formulated to be gentler on sensitive eyes and are less likely to cause irritation. A good choice for this would be Pinkfishes Pink Duchess sensitive adhesive. If you wanted to use this during your course instead, just let us know and we will ensure to swap this into your kit and ensure your models receive the correct patch test for the alternative glue.

Mental and Emotional Readiness

Pregnancy can come with mood swings, heightened emotions, and mental exhaustion—things that might make it harder to focus during a course that requires concentration and attention to detail. Lash training involves learning intricate techniques, and there’s a lot of information to absorb, so it’s important to make sure you’re in the right headspace.

Pregnancy can be tiring, especially in the later stages, so think about how you’ll manage your energy levels. If possible, opt for a course with a flexible schedule, allowing you to complete potential case studies at your own pace at home. Don’t hesitate to ask for support from your trainer. Let them know you’re pregnant, and they will be able to adjust the pace of the training to accommodate your needs.

If you find that you’re not able to absorb all the information in one go, don’t stress! You will receive a full manual on the day of your course to later refer back to, and we can also offer additional resources to help you with your case studies after your course.

Preparing for Your Lash Career

One of the great things about becoming a lash technician is that it’s a career that offers flexibility—something you will definitely need as a new mum! Whether you plan to work from home, in a salon, or run your own business, learning lash extensions during pregnancy can set you up for a career that fits around your family life.

Keep in mind that starting a business or taking on clients will require some physical and mental effort, so if you’re close to your due date, you may want to give yourself time to settle into motherhood before diving in full-time. However, getting trained while pregnant means you’ll be ready to start lashing once you feel up to it!

Pinkfishes Training Academy – Chelmsford, Essex

There is no reason pregnancy should stop you from pursuing your lash technician dreams. With the right precautions—like taking care of your physical comfort, ensuring proper ventilation, and taking breaks when you need to—it’s entirely possible to learn lash extensions while expecting. Pregnancy can be a busy time, but it can also be a perfect opportunity to gain new skills and prepare for a future career that offers both creativity and flexibility.

So, if you’ve been wondering, “Can I do a lash course if I’m pregnant?” the answer is yes, you can! Just take it at your own pace, and enjoy the process of learning something new before your little one arrives.
